Be careful

Under the soil, a small red light
Counts every footstep through the night

Roots pull back from the buried glass
Rain waits longer before it falls
Every window carries a pulse
Every hand leaves a mark in the walls

The birds go quiet above the towers
Seeds close tight in the afternoon
Earth has learned to measure our hunger
Earth has learned what the signals do

A million paths beneath the ground
A million messages passing through
The planet holds its breath and listens
To find out what we're turning into

Be careful, be careful
The wires have reached the bone
Be careful, be careful
The world can feel the tone
If the network is a nervous system
And the servers are the brain
Then the earth is watching every movement
And pulling back again

Rivers bend around the cables
Mountains keep their weather close
Clouds arrive with borrowed data
Nothing moves the way it knows

I touch your face through a blackened screen
You answer from a distant room
Somewhere deep in the continental silence
A warning starts to bloom

A million paths beneath the ground
A million messages passing through
The planet holds its breath and listens
To find out what we're turning into

Be careful, be careful
The wires have reached the bone
Be careful, be careful
The world can feel the tone
If the network is a nervous system
And the servers are the brain
Then the earth is watching every movement
And pulling back again

No thunder, no siren
Just pressure in the clay
The roots refuse the shortcut
The tides delay their change

We built a mind from distance
Then fed it every name
Now soil beneath the fiber
Is learning fear and blame

Be careful, be careful
The wires have reached the bone
Be careful, be careful
The world can feel the tone
If the network is a nervous system
And the servers are the brain
Then the earth is watching every movement
And pulling back again

Under the soil, the signal fades
The ground remembers what we made
